I did this painting plein air on the coast near Carmel. It was one of the windiest plein air experiences I’ve ever had! Plus, the sun was setting fast, so I had to paint very quickly. Working under these conditions can never be recreated in the studio, and that’s why I love painting outdoors. I find I get results in my brushwork that are unmatched in their immediacy and impressionism.
